From spoken words to lasting covers.
The Challenge
I was challenged to design a set of three cohesive book jackets that conceptually represented three stories "Museum of Broken Relationships", "Ugly Club", "A Crush" from the podcast This is Love by Phoebe Judge.
The Solution
To thoroughly understand the narratives and concepts of the stories, I listened to the podcast multiple times, then I word-mapped to explore the concepts. Instead of directly describing the concept, I used visual metaphors to convey the concept of the stories.
SKETCHING PROCESS
After listening to the podcasts, I quickly ideated the outcomes with different concepts until I identified the promising one. When I've done with the 1st book, I continued to research the content and sketch for the other two stories for the book cover trilogy.
EXPLORING AESTHETICS
I brought my ideas into Illustrator, Procreate, and I also tried doing paper cutout. After a small critique, I selected one style to replicate for the other book covers. I honed color schemes, typography, and made touch-ups in InDesign to perfect the details.
